Another one from New Mexico. I like the one below more though.
Lies, a dangerous way to corrupt yourself
A secret kept here, a secret kept there.
They blow easily through my mind, forgotten within days.
There in the back of my mind they pile up
I frequent this pile, digging through all the things you have lied about.
All the bad things you have done.
Incriminating evidence of what you have committed.
You move on with your life, you thought I had forgotten for good.
And I may forget for quite some time, but the pile grows and grows.
Soon, there will be no room.
What happens when lies take over your body?
You will not recognize the people who were dishonest to you.
You see their faces, their bodies like normal.
Their kind smiles blockading their inner selves,
But if you look closely, and look right through them, you will see.
You will see the monster that lives within them, spitting out lies, unable to be honest.
Your world will come down on you, raining mistrust and infidelity
You will be frightened by these creatures who’ve taken over countless identities.
It’s not until you look down at yourself that you realize the truth,
Even you have a monster inside yourself,
we all do.
